Pre Kindergarten Registration


Online prekindergarten registration for the 2020-2021 school year is now open!

Students must also meet the prekindergarten eligibility criteria in order to qualify for prekindergarten.  

Due to the impact of the COVID-19 emergency, Northwest ISD is not able to complete the qualifying portion of the 2020-2021 prekindergarten registration process at this time. Families should first complete the online portion of the prekindergarten registration process. We will contact families with information to  complete the qualifying  portions of the registration process when the district resumes normal operations.  

Registration is not considered complete until both qualifying and registration portions are complete. 

 Important Dates: 

Online Registration will open April 20, 2020 on the NISD website. You will need to complete this as soon as possible. Please do not complete before this date.

We will resume apppointments once our campus resumes normal operations.
No need to call at this time.

TBD - Hughes Elementary will accept registration paperwork this week from 9:00-11:00 am and 1:00-2:00 pm each day.
An appointment is required (no walk-ins please).

TBD- Pre-Kindergarten Round Up event at Hughes Elementary from 4:30-6:00 pm. 

Northwest ISD offers Prekindergarten classes for qualifying four-year-olds.  To be eligible for enrollment for the 2020-2021 school year a child must be at least four years of age by September 1, 2020 and meet at least one of the following  requirements:
  • Unable to speak and comprehend the English language- as documented on the oral language proficiency test administered at registration
  • Economically Disadvantaged- eligible for free or reduced lunch program -based on gross income of all working members of the household
  • Active Duty Military- Active duty uniformed members (parents or official guardians) of the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, or Coast Guard who are assigned to duty stations in Texas or who are Texans who have eligible children residing in Texas; this includes activated/mobilized uniformed members of the Texas National Guard(Army or Air Guard), or activated/mobilized members of the reserve components of the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, or Coast Guard who are Texas residents regardless of the location of the reserve unit; and uniformed service members who are Missing in Action (MIA), or injured while on active duty.
  • Foster Care- Children who are in or who have ever been in the conservatorship of the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) following and adversary hearing. This includes children that have been adopted or returned to their parents after having been in DFPS conservatorship.
  • Homeless as defined by 42 U.S.C. Section 11302
