Online registration for the 2021-2022 school year will open soon!

Go to Enrollment Online for New Students to register for the current school year only.  Registration will open in April for the 2021-2022 school year.

Students must also meet the prekindergarten eligibility criteria in order to qualify for prekindergarten.  

Registration is not considered complete until both qualifying and registration portions are complete. 


 Important Dates: 

Online Registration will open in April 2021 on the NISD website. You will need to complete this as soon as possible. Please do not complete before this date.

We will schedule appointments once online registration is completed. Please call
(817) 698-1912 to schedule a document review appointment. 

April 26th-30th- Hughes Elementary will accept registration paperwork this week from 9:00-11:00 am and 1:00-2:00 pm each day.
An appointment is required (no walk-ins please).

Pre-Kindergarten Round Up will be virtual for Hughes Elementary.  More information to follow.


State-Funded Pre-Kindergarten

  Northwest ISD offers free Pre-Kindergarten for children who:

  • Will be four-years-old by September 1, 2021 (for the 2021-2022 school year)
  • Live within the Northwest ISD boundaries  and
  • Meet one or more of the following eligibility criteria:
    • is unable to speak and comprehend the English language
    • is educationally disadvantaged, which means a student eligible to participate in the national free or reduced-price lunch program
    • is homeless, as defined by 42 United States Code (U.S.C.) Section 1143a, regardless of the residence of the child, of either parent of the child, or of the child's guardian or other person having lawful control of the child
    • is the child of an active duty member of the armed forces of the United States, including the state military forces or a reserve component of the armed forces, who is ordered to active duty by proper authority;
    • is the child of a member of the armed forces of the United States, including the state military forces or a reserve component of the armed forces, who was injured or killed while serving on active duty;
    • is in, or have been in, the conservatorship of the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) following an adversary hearing held as provided by Section 262.201, Family Code;
    • is the child of a person eligible for the Star of Texas Award as a peace officer (3106.002), firefighter (3106.003), or emergency medical first responder (3106.004).

    Documentation is required for each area the family wishes to qualify. Click here for appropriate documentation for each criteria listed above.

Tuition-Based Pre-Kindergarten 

Northwest ISD offers tuition-based, 1/2 day Pre-Kindergarten for children who:

  • Will be four-years-old by September 1, 2021 (for the 2021-2022 school year)
  • Live within the Northwest ISD boundaries and
  • Do not meet the eligibility requirements for the state-funded Pre-K or Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) , which are offered at no cost.

A limited number of tuition-based spots are available at designated campuses. Placement is initially decided through the tuition-based lottery in the spring.

A waitlist will be created for those not initially placed by lottery. Those not drawn in the lottery are placed in the order in which they were drawn and new entries are time-stamped placed on the waitlist in the order received. Open seats will be filled with the lottery waiting list as they come available.
