Grading Guidelines

Art Grading Guidelines

  Grades K 5

The main purpose of grading in elementary art is to evaluate a students level of participation in the Art Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS).  We grade all students for their participation and effort in trying to perform the learning objectives

1)  Each student will have a minimum of 3 Art grades per six weeks.

2)  Art grades will be based on knowledge, effort, and performance of learning objectives.  Think Product, Process, Progress for your Art grade.

3)  The content art grades will not be based on students behavior or conduct.  Art room behavior is reflected in a separate Art Citizenship grade given each 6 weeks.

4)  The art teacher will formally notify a parent (note, email or phone call) when their childs  grade may drop below an S.  Teachers must keep accurate documentation of records and communicate with parents.

Due to the fact that our report cards utilize the same program as the classroom teachers your child’s grade may not show up as you would expect.  If your child is receiving an E (Excellent), before the report card comes out it will look like 3% in the grade-book, an S (Satisfactory) will be 2%, and an N (Needs improvement) will look like 1%, a U (Unsatisfactory) will look like 0%.  This is not a percentage out of 100, however, but is a number based on a 4 point scale.  When the grades are loaded into the report card they will correct and show up as an E, S, N, and U.  For further explanation on the letter grade equivalents see below:

2.  Puts forth maximum effort, demonstrates self-motivation in meeting learning objectives

SATISFACTORY S (looks like 2% in gradebook prior to report card)
